House without views

Open or Closed?

A housing scheme for a densely populated city reconsidered the problems of the traditional outlook of street or yard.

Given a situation where neither aspect is very appealing, this scheme presented the option of ‘opening the roof’.

Advantages include no privacy issues with neighbors and an ever-changing vista. The lightweight roof is balanced by generous overhangs. A small motor is all that is required to tip the roof open and closed. A rain and wind sensor triggers automatic closure in case of inclement weather. Open the Roof promotes a lifestyle in tune with the elements.
